Ready to Start College? Begin at SMC
At SMC, we make it easy to start college—no application fee, support every step of the way, and programs that fit your goals—whether you’re transferring later or launching a career now.
You can apply if you:
- Have a high school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Or are 18 or older
- Or will graduate high school soon

Steps to Apply:
Applying is easy! Just follow the steps below to complete enrollment.
Note: Parents should not complete the application on behalf of the student, but may assist.
Apply Online and Verify Your Identity
To avoid delays, verify your identity when you create your CCCApply/OpenCCC account.
- All adult applicants must verify their identity before their application can be processed.
- If you choose "Verify Later," your admission application will be placed on hold until you complete the verification process.
- You can complete your identity verification at any time by signing in to your OpenCCC account.
- If you are unable to verify your identity online, visit the Admissions & Records Office with a valid photo ID, and staff can verify your identity in person.
- Completing your identity verification before submitting your application is the fastest way to avoid processing delays.

Apply for Financial Aid (Do This Early)
Complete your FAFSA or Dream Act application as soon as possible to maximize your eligibility. Over $50 million in aid is offered annually at SMC.
Review Your Course Placement
We’ll place you or help you choose the right English and math classes based on your high school coursework or other academic history. Once admitted, check Corsair Connect.
Meet With A Counselor &
Create a Stellic Education Plan
A counselor will help you explore majors, build your first schedule, and create an
education plan.
Plan on your own in Stellic.
Enroll in Classes
Search for classes and enroll on Corsair Connect on or after your enrollment date/time. Submit payment the same day to secure your spot.

Account Recovery
If you have previously created an OpenCCC account but do not remember the username or password, you can recover your account information via email or text message by clicking the "Forgot?" tab on the CCCApply sign in screen. You will receive instructions to the selected recover method for recovering your username, and creating a new password. Santa Monica College does not have access to OpenCCC accounts and is unable to assist students in recovering their account information. Please follow up with OpenCCC if you are unable to recover your account using their account recovery system.
